GOOD ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MAHOGANY LIBRARY BOOKCASE // CIRCA 1880 // 5ft wide
The Library bookcase is in good overall used condition but is ready to place in the setting of your choice,

It has a raised top section which has a caddy style cornice above a central fret carved mount, beneath are 4 open shelves fixed at the height shown, these are flanked by a pair of framed & glazed doors with original locks and replacement key in good working order, they each have 4 internal shelves which can be adjusted in heights,

both the top and bottom have applied circular detail to the upright sections.

The lower section has an inverse stepped front, it has 3 good sized drawers across the top with original brass handles, dovetail joints and solid wood drawer linings, there is a central recess which is flanked by a pair of panel doors with applied moulding and carved detail at the top, both cupboards have a single internal shelf fixed at the height shown and come with lock and replacement key (1 key to open & lock all cupboards and doors)

It stands on a sturdy plinth base

THE BOOKCASE COMES IN 2 PARTS FOR EASE WHEN TRANSPORTING

Condition
The Bookcase is 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, it has very slight fading to the left hand end and the flat surface on the sideboard, the flat surface also has a couple of faint scratches and 3 small indentations (see close ups) it also has slight rubbing and marks around the plinth at the bottom at the front & sides..

The Bookcases were purchased from Hawarden Castle dispersal sale back in 2007,

WOULD MAKE GREAT SHOP FITTINGS WITH A LITTLE WORK...

Both bookcases come total flatback, ideal for moving such large items,
each bookcase is in 9 main parts,

Cornice, base, 2 glass doors, 2 sides, 2 back panels and the shelves,


They date from Circa 1880 and are made of solid ebonised mahogany highlighted in gilt,

each bookcase has a flared cornice with gilt detail above a large pair of framed and glazed doors, each door has 4 glass panels, they stand on sturdy plinth bases with more gilt detail, the back panels are original and were originally covered in burgundy plush fabric which has been removed, the shelves and the brackets are a later addition, the shelves would originally slotted in grooves which are accessed from the back before putting the back panel on..

Both bookcases have the original cut outs at the sides to fit around the dado rail and the large skirting boards (see close ups)

The bookcase are screwed together but sadly did not come with the original screws so we have used later replacements..

EBONISED MAHOGANY

Condition Report:
The bookcases are 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, the gilt detail on both bookcases is badly rubbed,

The R H bookcase is in the better condition of the 2 and has no cracks to the original Victorian glass, it has a slight chip to the base at the front L H corner,

The bookcase pictured on the L H side has 2 cracked panels at the bottom in the centre,(could be replaced) it also has a deep scratch to the L H side and the R H side, slight damage around the top R H hinge,

both bookcases have brackets on the inside to fix the sides to the top and bottom (later addition)

Both bookcases have various marks, slight scratches and imperfections items.

At the maximum both bookcases measure
96" high, 90" wide and 21" deep overall
The current shelves are 13".5 deep.

ARTS & CRAFTS INLAID OAK OPEN BOOKCASE WITH ORIENTAL GLASS BEAD WORK PANELS
The bookcase is in good overall condition and is ready to place in the setting of your choice,
It is a lovely mix of simple Arts & Crafts and oriental design,
The bookcase has a pagoda shaped top with dentil detail in the centre above an inset oriental panel, beneath is a single bow front shelf with inlaid detail, it has a further shelf fixed at the height shown and 2 smaller shelves, (these can be adjusted slightly in height) this is flanked by a pair of doors which have fantastic pair of glass bead work inset panels, these are of an oriental man and woman, the bookcase stands on bracket feet at the front and solid sides with arched detail

The LIBRARY BOOKCASE is in good overall but used condition and is ready to place in the setting of your choice,

The bookcase is a very very elaborate piece and dates from the late 19th Century, it has French or Flemish origins and is a neat compact size at 3ft 2 inches wide..

It has the most striking carved detail throughout, please view the many pictures this will help describe the piece,

The bookcase has a flared cornice above a single frosted arch glass door, it has 4 shelves to the interior which can be adjusted in height,

The lower section is slightly deeper and has a bow front drawer with ornate brass handle above a single cupboard, (single internal shelf

The boookcase is 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, it has a couple of small pieces of wood missing from the top of the arched door on the L H and R H side, (see close ups) the top section has splits to the L H side and a faint split to the R H side,

the door at the bottom has a couple of very old repairs which are very hard to spot unless you view them close up

All other faults are minimal and in keeping with an Antique used item

It bears the makers label for "GUNN" to the inside,

It has a shaped top above 4 large bookcase sections which each have glass and wooden framed doors with brass knob handles, the doors lift up & over the books. the bookcase stands on a shaped plinth which is slightly deeper than the sections and offers good stability,

GOOD QUALITY EDWARDIAN CARVED MAHOGANY BOW FRONT BOOKCASE CIRCA 1901-10
The BOOKCASE is in good overall used condition and is ready to place in the setting of your choice,

The bookcase is made of solid mahogany throughout and is a lovely example, it has a shaped ledge back above a bow front top with carved lip, beneath are a striking pair of astragal glazed doors which come with lock and key in working order, the interior has been paper lined and has 3 solid wood shelves which can be adjusted at 2 inch intervals, the shelves have bow fronts and the depth varies from 12 inches to 14 at the deepest point in the middle, the bookcase stands on 4 elegant cabriole legs which have shell & scroll carved detail to the knees and claw & ball feet.
