FABULOUS VICTORIAN CAST IRON & BRASS NAUTILUS FIRE GRATE JAMES B PETTER

It is in good overall used condition and are ready to place in your hearth,
A truly fantastic fire grate which will make a great focal and talking point.....
In 1882 Petter showed his Nautilus Grate at the manchester Smoke Abatement Exhibition and after Queen Victoria installed Nautilus fire grates at Balmoral Castle and Osbourne House, demand for them grew substantially.
The fire grate has a scrolled top and shaped sides with the most fantastic detail to the cast iron, the edge is also bound on brass, the cast around the basket has fire patterned detail, it has 2 rails across the front hold the coals in place and striking brass finials at the front, the grate also has brass rails at the front to hold fireside implements.
The fire stands on 4 solid brass wheels

Condition Report:
Good overall condition but does have one slight crack to the front L H leg and a hairlaine to the same leg on the L H side (please view pics 6 & 7) it also has a crack to the metal beneath the scroll top at the back (never seen, please view pic 8)

GOOD ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MAHOGANY LIBRARY BOOKCASE // CIRCA 1880 // 5ft wide |
The Library bookcase is in good overall used condition but is ready to place in the setting of your choice,
It has a raised top section which has a caddy style cornice above a central fret carved mount, beneath are 4 open shelves fixed at the height shown, these are flanked by a pair of framed & glazed doors with original locks and replacement key in good working order, they each have 4 internal shelves which can be adjusted in heights,
both the top and bottom have applied circular detail to the upright sections.
The lower section has an inverse stepped front, it has 3 good sized drawers across the top with original brass handles, dovetail joints and solid wood drawer linings, there is a central recess which is flanked by a pair of panel doors with applied moulding and carved detail at the top, both cupboards have a single internal shelf fixed at the height shown and come with lock and replacement key (1 key to open & lock all cupboards and doors)
It stands on a sturdy plinth base
THE BOOKCASE COMES IN 2 PARTS FOR EASE WHEN TRANSPORTING
Condition
The Bookcase is 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, it has very slight fading to the left hand end and the flat surface on the sideboard, the flat surface also has a couple of faint scratches and 3 small indentations (see close ups) it also has slight rubbing and marks around the plinth at the bottom at the front & sides..

THE BED HAS THE HEALS MAKERS LABEL ON THE FRONT OF THE HEADBOARD
It has a high raised headboard which can be illuminated from the back, it has a chrome on & off switch at the front and a frosted glass panel near the top, the headboard is veneered in striking Tiger Oak and has a slightly stepped top, the footboard is lower but also has a slightly stepped top, the bed comes complete with metal side irons which are bolted on,
We will supply either wooden slats or an old bed spring (in good condtion) to fit the bed.

It dates from Circa 1930 and is made of solid mahogany, it has just been refinished in breakfast room green & black which enhances the piece and gives it a fresh Art Deco finish..
It has fluted bow front end columns and stepped plinth base which has been detailed in black, there is a single bow front shelf at the top with black detail to the front edge.

The bench is ready to place in the setting of your choice and offers good storage for shoes under the seat,
The bench is made of 100% solid oak and is a neat compact size at 32 inches wide, ideal for those narrow hallways or recesses,
it has a hinged lid which can be used flat and has panelled detail or it can be tilted back to form a bench and this has lozenge carved detail, the back is pegged to the arm rests and can easily be tilted,
the armrests are flat with turned upright columns, it has a panel seat which is hinged and has good storage beneath and more carved detail to the panelled front, the bench stands on a shaped apron...
Condition
The Bench 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, it has slight shrinkage to the reverse of the lid (never seen unless folded flat), it has slight rubbing to the finish in various areas and the odd slight indentations,
It is in good overall used condition, all faults and slight marks are commensurate with an Antique used item.

The mirror is a very stylish piece and dates from C1930-40, it has a stepped top with arched detail at the bottom, the mirror has fancy bevelled edges with floral & wavy etched detail to the 2 end panels, the mirror also has 2 pink tinted panels which contract nicely with the plain mirror panels.
THE MIRROR CAN BE EASILY WALL MOUNTED USING THE CHROME FIXING BRACKETS WHICH WERE NOT FITTED WHEN THE MIRROR WAS PICTURED.

The Mirror is sound, sturdy & 100% free from chips to the glass, it has a few small spots to the silvering here and there but this is minimal and in keeping with a Vintage item...

it has cost a small fortune when purchased from new 30-40 years ago,
The chest is a neat compact size at just under 2ft wide, it has has a fold over top which is supported by pull out lopers, the chest has satin line inlay to the top and drawer fronts and striking yew veneers throughout,
It has 4 drawers which all run smoothly and have ornate brass handles, the chest stands on bracket feet.
Condition
The chest is 100% sound, sturdy and free from woodworm, the chest has a couple of faint marks to the top and various very slight superficial light scratches (only noticeable on very close inspection) the interior of the fold out top has a couple of faint marks, the rest of the chest is in good overall condition just very minimal marks which are in keeping with a Vintage used item..
